Dot Paolo was born in 1956 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She received a B.F.A. in Art Education and Sculpture from the University of Bridgeport, Ct. in 1978 and an M.F.A. from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in 2009.
She moved back from Connecticut and began working in a picture frame shop before starting her own business as a Corporate Art Consultant and Gallery director. The business, Rabbet Art Gallery, Inc. was established in 1984 and is still operating in Branchburg, NJ. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ.
Dot started as a painter, sculptor and printmaker. The two and three- dimensional work continued through undergraduate. She did not start working in photography until after she started the Gallery business and needed to print press photos for the exhibitions.
She works in both black and white silver prints and archival digital photography. Most of her recent artworks are digital.
The photographs are set up still lifes or dioramas that incorporate toys and odd objects into fabricated environments.
